I keep getting asked why I had this baby on the toilet. If you did not read above, my labor lasted a little over an hour. Shortly after I realized I was in active labor, I went to the toilet to clear my bowels. After doing so, I tried to clean myself up as best I could between contractions, then tried to get up. It hurt, and I was starting to have a contraction again, so I sat back down. I took a few contractions on the toilet, and grabbed my thighs with each one, opening my pelvis. It felt good. Soon I began to feel nauseous and started to retch (but did not vomit), which is why there is a garbage can in front of me. After I was done retching, I checked my cervix (as I know the act of retching can make you dilate), and found myself to be at 6-7. I was in transition. I informed my husband, “Sorry, but I’m probably going to have this baby on the toilet.” It was not my plan, and if I had a choice, I would not choose to do it again, even though it was easy cleanup. I did not like the position.
